Obituary for Frances P. Choiniere

SWANTON – Frances Prouty Choiniere quietly left this earth to join her family members who have gone before her, on January 25, 2019 at the age of 95.

Frances was a warm, witty, and friendly woman who loved her family. Back in the day you could find her roller skating at the Fantasia, which is where she met Jacques. Frances and Jacques Choiniere married on April 3, 1948. Their first home was in Highgate, but most of her life was spent living on Spring Street in Swanton. This is the home where she raised her four children, Jacqueline Rabon, Ernest Choiniere, Suzanne Choiniere, and Albert Choiniere.

Frances was a valuable employee of Ryerson's Sister Sewing Room and Ben Franklin, in Swanton and St. Albans. Her favorite color was blue, she loved to collect snowmen, of which she had several hundred, and she loved her husband’s 1931 Oldsmobile, the car they drove on their honeymoon to Niagara Falls. You could usually find Frances sporting a paperboy hat while she was knitting; and her other hobbies included, ceramics, sewing, baking, bowling, canning, cross country skiing, and ice skating. She was famous for her homemade donuts and baked beans, which she sold at the farmers market. Frances was a 70-year member of The Kings Daughters. Animals loved Frances, and the feeling was mutual, she had several cats through the years.

Frances Prouty Choiniere was born in Swanton on May 25, 1923, the daughter of the late Sanford C. Prouty Sr. and Laura Jane Wilbur Prouty. She graduated from Swanton High School class of 1942. She was an active knitter, and often made blankets and shawls for the St. Albans Hospitals, or others who needed the warmth of a comfort blanket.

She was predeceased by both of her parents; her husband of 38 years, Jacques Choiniere; her son, Ernest P. Choiniere; her infant grandson, Marc A. Fregeau; her great granddaughter, Megan R. Fregeau; and her siblings, William C. Prouty, Sanford C. Prouty Jr., and Nancy Prouty Sheldon;
