WEST ENOSBURGH - Annalou Kittell, a beloved mother and vibrant member of the community, passed away peacefully with her loving family by her side on Wednesday, April 15, 2026, just shy of her 95th birthday.
She was born in Enosburgh on April 20, 1931 to the late Forest & Mable (Matherson) Johnston.
Annalou first captured hearts in 1949 when she was crowned Miss Vermont, paving the way for a lifelong passion for service and community involvement. After receiving her nurse training in Randolph, she dedicated many years to healthcare in Hartford, Connecticut. Her nurturing spirit shone brightly in every patient she cared for.
Upon returning to her roots in Vermont, Annalou embraced the role of Avon representative throughout Enosburgh, Richford, Berkshire, and Sheldon. Her journey returned her once more to nursing, where she served at Camp Missisquoi, and she supported her husband in managing the Mobil station from 1967 to 1982.
Annalou took pleasure in attending antique shows and car shows with her family. She was a regular at local lawn sales, garage sales, and auctions, often finding treasures that she cherished. Furthermore, her craft of braiding rugs showcased her creativity and dedication to preserving traditional crafts. Her commitment to her faith was evident through her active involvement in the West Enosburgh Methodist Church. From the 1960s until the church's closure, she prepared communion and crafted beautiful wreaths for the church bazaar.
She is survived by her children, Leigh Kittell and his wife Melanie, and Ray Kittell; grandchildren, Douglas Kittell and his wife Brandy, Patrick Kittell, Joshua Kittell, and Kyle Kittell and his wife Sabrina; great grandchildren, Austen Kittell and his significant other Jazmyn Wilson, Alexis Kittell and her significant other Tyler Elwood, Mackenzie Kittell, and Sadie Kittell; and several nieces & nephews. In addition to her parents, Annalou was predeceased by her husband, Douglas Kittell; her sister, Olive Bowles; brother-in-law, Roderick Kittell; and sister-in-law, Ernestine Seward.
Friends & family are invited to Annalou's life celebration on Saturday, May 2, 2026 to include visitation from 10-11:00 AM followed with a funeral service at 11:00 AM at the Goss-Spears Life Celebration Home, 96 Dickinson Avenue, Enosburg Falls, VT. A private family committal will follow in Enosburgh Center Cemetery.
