FRANKLIN, VT/ZEPHYRHILLS, FL- Anne Marie (Myott) Desroches, age 85, passed away on November 15, 2023, at the Northwestern Medical Center with her loving family by her side. Anne was born on July 24, 1938, in Sheldon, VT, and was the daughter of Lawrence and Cecile (Brown) Myott. She was predeceased by her parents, her husband Albert Desroches, her brother Lawrence (Larry) Myott, and two grandsons, Ryan Forty and Ian Connolly.
Anne was born on her family's farm in Sheldon, and they later moved to a farm in Franklin, VT when she was six years old. Anne's parents were homesteaders, and their meals consisted of the ingredients grown on their farm. As the oldest of five siblings, Anne was recruited at a young age to help her father in the barn and fields, and she often drove the horses during the haying season. Anne graduated from Franklin High School as Salutatorian at sixteen years old, which was a year early. As a result of her academic achievements, she was recommended for a secretarial position in the State Building in Montpelier with the Vermont Department of Highways.
Anne married Joseph Albert Desroches in 1956 and together they had seven children. Their favorite pastime while the children were young was camping. Anne would often finish her work week then pack the kids and dogs into the camper and head for Franklin State Park. She would quickly set up camp, hang tarps, and have dinner cooking on the fire before Albert got home from work. Anne worked for Fonda Container in St. Albans, VT for thirty-four years. While raising children and working, Anne served her community as an EMT for the Franklin Rescue, as Treasurer of the Franklin Little League, and as a volunteer on the Franklin Town Water Board.
After retirement, Anne and Albert spent their winters in Zephyrhills, FL with her brother and two of her three sisters. She also volunteered at the Eastern States Exhibition representing Vermont in the Maple Sugarhouse Exhibit with her brother, and she was active as the chairperson of the Sleepy Hollow Mobile Estates Bingo Club for many years. Anne was hard-working, loyal to her family, and had a keen sense of organization and efficiency throughout her life. She enjoyed all types of needlework, gardening, camping, baseball games, playing cards, playing the piano, and was an avid reader mostly of historical fiction. Anne happily moved to the Carriage House in Franklin in March of 2023. She felt very at home there because from the front door she could see both the house she raised her children in, and the treetops over the farm she grew up on. She said it felt right like she had come full circle.
She is survived by sister Elizabeth Rainville of Franklin, VT; sister Ruth Miller and her husband Jack of Grand Isle, VT; sister Rita Poulin of Barre, VT; daughter Monica Sweet and her husband Gilbert of Franklin, VT; daughter Madeleine Desroches-Connolly and her husband Frederick of Pomfret, CT; daughter Patricia Desroches of Franklin, VT; son David Desroches of St. Albans, VT; daughter Dolores Parizo and her husband Tim of Grand Isle, VT; daughter Karen Desroches-Walker and her husband Christopher of Hancock, NH; and son Ronald Desroches and his wife Dianne of Jeffersonville, VT.
She is also survived by twenty-one grandchildren; seventeen great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews, and Bella, her cat, who was her beloved companion.
