Avis Anderson

BAKERSFIELD- Avis F. Anderson, age 73, passed away on Friday, December 23, 2022 at her home.

She was born in Montgomery Center on May 14, 1949 to the late Floyd and Sadie (Longe) Manosh.

Avis grew up in Montgomery where she attended elementary school and graduated in 1967 from Enosburg Falls High School. Her career in the restaurant industry began while still in high school at Zacks on the Rocks where she was quickly made the chef; she also spent time waitressing at the Wedel-Inn in Montgomery Center. Avis had a talent and passion for cooking and in 1991 she purchased The Quincy in Enosburg. She restored the historic building and renamed it The Somerset where she owned and operated for 26 years. While running The Somerset she purchased B's Diner in Enosburg and opened The Winterset from 1997-1999. On July 4, 1998 she married Robert "Bob" Anderson and they made a home together in Bakersfield and looked forward to spending the 4th of July in Wells, ME. In 2016 she sold The Somerset- she treasured every one of her regulars who supported her through the years by enjoying countless meals, laughs, and company. Avis was a devoted worker and will be remembered for her determination in every endeavor she took on.

She is survived by her husband, Bob Anderson of Bakersfield; sons, Bradley Gagnon of VA, Peter Gagnon of Bakersfield, and Adam Gagnon of VA; grandchildren, Samantha, and Jordan; stepchildren, Christopher Anderson of AR, Stephen Anderson of NC, Robert C. Anderson of NC, Jennifer Hauck of IN, Sarah Gilbert of St. Albans, and Rebecca Matoon of Chelsea; several step grandchildren; siblings, Carlton Longe, and Theresa Bolt of Richford; sister-in-law, June Sherian and her husband Claude of Bakersfield; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Besides her parents, Avis was predeceased by her siblings, Robert Manosh, Leroy Manosh, Roland Manosh, and Rachel Lemay and her husband Adalard "Chief"; and a sister-in-law, Beverly Wilson and her husband David.

Services will be held at the convenience of Avis' family.
