ENOSBURG FALLS - Avis Gervais, age 91, passed away on Saturday, July 26, 2025 at Franklin County Rehab in St. Albans.
She was born in Enosburgh on September 5, 1933 to the late Wareth E. "Buster" & Lillian (Lumbra) Garrett.
Born and raised in Enosburg Falls, Avis graduated from Enosburg Falls High School and remained deeply connected to her roots throughout her life. She married Normand Gervais in 1951. With an entrepreneurial spirit, she co-founded and operated The Fashion Boutique, where she not only showcased her keen sense of style but also built lasting relationships with her customers.
Avis was much more than a business owner; she was a stalwart advocate for her community. As a founding member of the Modern Dozen 500 Club, she worked tirelessly to support local initiatives and foster camaraderie among residents. Her leadership extended to various roles, including serving as chair of the Village Trustees, member of the Planning Commission, Town Lister and active participant with the Enosburg Ambulance Service, the Historical Society, and the Enosburg Falls Economic Development Corporation.
Beyond her local contributions, Avis had a significant impact on a broader scale as a State Representative from 1997 to 2008, championing the needs of her constituents with passion and integrity. She also served on the boards for the Health Center and Franklin County Home Health, demonstrating her dedication to healthcare and the well-being of children in need as a guardian ad litem.
She is survived by her son, David N. Gervais of Enosburg Falls; grandchildren, Casey Gervais and her husband Joe Ramsey of Maple Grove, MN, Caitlin Brouillard and her husband Michael of South Burlington, Whitney Hanson and her husband Ethan of Tampa, FL, Tyler Gervais of Franklin, Simeon "Sam" Gervais and his wife Jenessa of Franklin, David E. Gervais and his wife Eve of South Korea, and Garrett Gervais and his wife Robyn Loock of Harrisville, NH; 13 great grandchildren including Parker and Hudson, whom she shared a special bond with; brother-in-law, Richard Brodeur and his partner Betty; and close friends, Mary Larivee, and Donald Burns and his late wife Connie; and several nieces & nephews. In addition to her parents, Avis was predeceased by her husband, Normand Gervais; and their children, Steven Gervais, Michael Gervais, and Judy Wicker and her husband Mark; and siblings-in-law, Paul Gervais, Rita Parker, Yvonne Brown, and Pauline Brodeur.

Friends & family are invited to Avis' life celebration on Saturday, August 16, 2025 to include visitation from 10-11:00 AM followed with a memorial service at 11:00 AM at the Goss-Spears Life Celebration Home, 96 Dickinson Avenue, Enosburg Falls, VT. Interment will follow in St. John the Baptist Cemetery in Enosburg Falls.
