Carey Hemond

May 15, 1950 — November 23, 2025

RICHFORD - Carey P. Hemond, age 75, passed away on Sunday, November 23, 2025 at Franklin County Health & Rehab in St. Albans.

She was born in St. Albans on May 15, 1950 to the late Robert & Phyllis (King) Waterhouse.

Carey lived a life marked by resilience, determination, and an unwavering spirit. She was a proud graduate of Richford High School, Class of 1968, and dedicated herself to hard work throughout her life. Her professional journey included valued roles at the Dairy Center, Hockey Stick Factory, Cheese Plant, Bum Wraps, and the American Legion. However, her most cherished role was as the owner/operator of Carey's Diner in Swanton, where she shared not only meals but a warmth that brought the community together.

Carey found joy in the simple pleasures of life. When her health permitted, she loved to fish on the Trout River and lend her enthusiastic support to her sons, Michael and Robbie, helping to coach their baseball teams with passion and commitment. Despite the challenges posed by her diagnosis of multiple sclerosis, she faced her health struggles with grace and strength, never once complaining about the hand she was dealt.

A lover of games and chance, Carey enjoyed gambling and was often found playing Bingo or cards-whether it was Tuck, 500, or her favorite online games, where she forged deep friendships. She had a flair for sweepstakes, often entering with hope, and delighting in the occasional win.

She is survived by her children, Michael Hemond and his wife Tracey, and Wendy Hemond and her significant other, Xander; grandchildren, Brett Hemond and his fiancé Nicole, Chelsea Lykes and her husband Thomas, Brady Hemond and his wife Justine, Shawnie Hemond, and Blake LeClaire; great grandchildren, Marlee Hemond, Kyrie Lykes, Kreed Lykes, Bella Hemond, Leah Hemond, Kendra Hemond, Wesley Hemond, Kane Bates, and one more on the way; siblings, Kim Waterhouse and his wife Sharon, and Mark Waterhouse and his wife Sharon; close friends, Lora Jacobs, and Jeff & Nancy Baisley; and many nieces & nephews. In addition to her parents, Carey was predeceased by her son, Robbie Hemond; siblings, Grace Fournier and her husband Roger, and John Waterhouse and his wife Debbie; and the father of her children, Paul Hemond.

Carey's family would like to thank Carol & Kevin Tessier for the love and care they provided to her, and the staff from Franklin County Health & Rehab, especially Samantha King, and Patrick Staples.
