Charlene Machia

SHELDON - Charlene L. Machia, age 88, passed away on Thursday May 22nd, 2025, at the Northwestern Medical Center in St. Albans.

Charlene was born on March 9th, 1937, in Fairfield to the late Charles and Louise (Lovern) Danyow.

Charlene embodied the spirit of her home in Sheldon, where she raised seven children. She married the love of her life, William Machia on February 22nd, 1955, they were married for 70 years. A devoted homemaker and farmer, Charlene filled her home with love and warmth, nurturing not only her family but also the vibrant flowers in her garden, sweet corn and potatoes. She had a special love for cardinals and hummingbirds, often finding joy in their graceful presence.

Charlene's love for life was matched only by her passion for games, particularly Rummy and Yahtzee where she played in her devious ways. Charlene had a knack for wordplay with crossword puzzles. A devoted member of the Catholic Church, Charlene attended St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Sheldon and St. Louis Catholic Church in Highgate for many years. Charlene's faith was a guiding light in her life and the foundation upon which she built deep, meaningful connections with her family and community.

Charlene is survived by her husband, William Machia; children, Bill Machia and his significant other, Judy Giroux, Donna Stevens and her husband Jeff, Marlene Machia, Nancy Bertrand and her husband Joe, Wanda Sloan and her husband Eric, and Ronnie Machia and his wife Sherry; grandchildren, Owen Giroux, Ian Giroux, Jason Giroux, Angela Ryan and her husband Dean, Michael Feeley and his significant other, Laurie Bombard, Rickie Machia Jr and his wife Jenna, Nicole Jacobs and her husband George, Jennifer McDaniel and her husband Rob, Tausha Simmons and her husband Mike, Andrew Morris, David Machia and his significant other Nicole, Nyoka Bertrand, Jed Bertrand and his significant other Emily Gabree, Jeff Machia and his significant other Christie Benjamin, Ashley Machia, Chad Machia and his wife Rachel, Dustin Machia and his wife Danielle, Myia Spinucci and her husband Mike; many great grandchildren and great great grandchildren; and several nieces & nephews. In addition to her parents, Charlene was predeceased by her son, David Machia; great granddaughter, Savannah Machia; and her siblings, Betty Whiting and her husband Richard, and Chuck Danyow; and several siblings-in-law.

Friends and family are invited to Charlene's life celebration to include visitation from 4-7:00 PM on Tuesday, May 27th, 2025, at the Goss Life Celebration Home, 89 Grand Avenue, Swanton, VT. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 12:00 PM on Wednesday, May 28th, 2025, at the St. Louis Catholic Church, Lamkin Street, Highgate, VT. Interment will follow in St. Louis Cemetery in Highgate.
