Charles Ryland Purrier, a lifelong resident of Montgomery, passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday, April 22, 2026, with his loving family by his side.
Born on May 17, 1962, to Charles Lambert and Beverly Taisey Purrier, Charlie was raised on the family farm where he developed a lifelong passion for agriculture. He was an active FFA member from 1976-1982 and was a state officer. In 1982, he earned his American Farmer Degree from Vermont Technical College before returning home to the farm and IBA business. In 1984, he married the love of his life, Annie Bailey. Together, they raised three children—the fifth generation of Purriers—on the family farm.
In addition to dairy farming, Charlie was well-known for his high-quality hay and also worked as a feed manager for a local dairy farm. His commitment to his community was equally steadfast; he was a dedicated member of the Masonic Lodge and served on the Montgomery school board for 24 years.
While Charlie was passionate about the land, his greatest joy was his family. Whether working alongside his wife and children in the barn, sharing family dinners, or recounting stories, he was happiest when surrounded by those he loved. A man of unwavering integrity, strong work ethic, and deep respect for others, Charlie took immense pride in watching his family grow and flourish.
Charlie is survived by his wife, Annie; their children and spouses, Jinny (Richie) Rainville, Elle (Jamie) St. Pierre, and Ryland (Abby) Purrier; and seven grandsons: Charles, Gannon, James, Gaston, Ivan, Gatlin, and Harvey. He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles L. and Beverly (Taisey) Purrier and uncle, Robert Taisey.
The family wishes to extend their deepest gratitude to Dr. Akintola and her team at UVM Medical Center for their supportive care, and to their family and friends for the overwhelming kindness and generosity shown during this journey.
Visiting hours will be held Friday, May 1, 2026, from 5:00–8:00 PM at the Goss Spears Funeral Home, 96 Dickenson Ave. Enosburg Falls, VT 05450.
