Donald Kane

June 1, 1932 — February 14, 2008

SHELDON - Donald Patrick Kane, age 75, a lifelong resident and farmer of Sheldon, passed away peacefully at his home after a long illness on Thursday morning February 14, 2008 surrounded by his loving family.

Donald was born in Sheldon on June 1, 1932 the son of the late Rufus W. & Yvonne (Lupien) Kane who were originally from Drummondville, Quebec prior to making their home in Sheldon.

After his retirement from farming, Donald became an avid gardener, working a large market garden on the farm. He was known for his abundant crops of red potatoes and other produce which was enjoyed by family, friends and other acquaintances. Along with his other hobbies of woodworking, hunting with his son and grandchildren, cutting firewood, logging, his daily trips around the block in Sheldon, his frequent trips to McCuins for grain, birdseed and socializing with the great people there which made him a very busy man. His love of watching and feeding the birds was a part of his daily routine. He was a man who enjoyed his life, his freedom, and his family.

He leaves to mourn, his wife Claire (Mahoney) Kane of Sheldon; son and his wife, Mark & Donna Kane of Sheldon; daughters, Ann Meehan and her husband Chris of Bellingham, MA, Mary Blinn and her husband Dave of Sheldon, Sally Sullivan and her husband Donald of Swanton, and Valerie Kane and her friend Rick Cadieux of Sheldon; his grandchildren and great grandchildren, Josh Kane his wife Tatum and their children Riley & Cameron of Sheldon, Jody Kane and his friend Denise Brunelle of Sheldon, Jacob Kane his wife Douglass and their daughter Jordon of Sheldon, Chris Magnant of Fairfiax, Marilyn Whittaker her husband Roy and their children, Chloe, Lucia & Grace of Freeport, ME, Alicia Norris and her husband Ben of Monkton, Scott Kane and his son Brandon of Enosburg Falls. Donald also leaves to mourn a brother and his wife, Norman & Peggy (Larose) Kane of Sheldon; a sister and her husband, Theresa & Bob Gale of Sheldon Jct.; several nieces and nephews. Besides Donalds parents he was predeceased by his son, Joey Michael Kane in 1973.

Funeral services will be held Monday February 18, 2008 at 11:00 AM St. Anthonys Catholic Church in Sheldon Springs with Revs. Bernard Bechard & Rich ODonnell con-celebrating the Mass of Christian Burial. Interment will take place this spring next to his son in St. Anthonys Cemetery.

Visiting hours will be held Sunday from 3-6 at the Spears Funeral Home, 96 Dickinson Ave., Enosburg Falls.
