ENOSBURG FALLS - Donat J. Gagne, age 86, peacefully passed away on December 31st, 2025, at the Brownway Residence surrounded by his loving family.
He was born on March 28th, 1939, in Highgate VT, to the late Emile and Alma (Rivard) Gagne.
After proudly serving in the United States Army for two years, Donat worked at Champlain College as a secretary before following his passion for beauty and aesthetics, embarking on a rewarding career as a hair stylist within the Burlington, Vermont area, where he touched the lives of countless clients with his artistic flair and warm personality. Donat continued to work in the cosmetology industry until the age of 70, leaving behind a legacy of joy and confidence among those he served.
Outside of his professional life, Donat had a profound love for wildlife. His passions included observing birds and squirrels, as well as caring for cats and dogs, who were an integral part of his life. He was also known for his culinary talents, creating delicious fudge, peanut butter balls, and handcrafted gifts, such as calendars and decorative pens, for his nieces and nephews during the Christmas season. His thoughtful gifts spoke volumes of his generous spirit and affection for family.
Donat is survived by his sisters, Loretta Quilliam and her husband Fred and Rita White; nieces and nephews; Debra Campagna, Steven Campagna and his wife Jamine, Gerald Campagna and his significant other Shelly Chan and Maurice Campagna and his wife Kim; 31 nieces and nephews; multiple great nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Donat was predeceased by his siblings; Loraine Nichols and her husband Ralph, Lucille Campagna and her husband Normand, Ovilla Gagne and his wife Peggy, Rosaire Gagne and his wife Rachel, and Lionel Gagne and his wife Laurianne; and brother-in-law; Rudy Chapola.
Friends & family are invited to Donat's life celebration to include visitation from 2-3:00 PM, followed by a memorial service on Friday, January 16th, 2026, at the Goss Life Celebration Home, 89 Grand Avenue, Swanton, VT. Interment will be held this spring in the St. Louis Cemetery in Highgate VT.
