Duane Cooper

August 2, 1963 — November 6, 2022

RICHFORD- Duane "Coop" Cooper, age 59, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, November 6, 2022 at the Northwestern Medical Center in St. Albans.

He was born in St. Albans on August 2, 1963 to Ilene (Elwood) and the late Carlton Cooper.

Coop grew up in Highgate, attended Highgate elementary School and graduated from Missisquoi Valley Union in 1981. After graduation he joined the Army National Guard where he served for 8 years. He had several jobs throughout his life which included a mechanic, and truck driver for Pleasant Valley Farms for several years. Coop married Christine Lewis on July 15, 1995 and the two enjoyed vacations to Maine, rides on the Harley, and endless rides on backroads. Coop was an avid hunter and loved hunting in Jay. He also enjoyed ice fishing and hockey in his younger years. But what Coop loved most was making people laugh and maintaining his rough exterior. He was known for his loud infectious chuckle, his quick wit, and his unmatched ability to get people going. Coop had a hard, stubborn shell but once cracked, he was as soft and loving as they come-which was most evident when he was around children, and his grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife, Christine Cooper of Richford; children, Corey Cooper and his wife Danielle of Roanoke, VA, Kira Trombley and her husband Eric of Swanton, Nick "Moose" Cooper and his fiancé Eliza Doncaster of Montpelier, and Jessica Lewis of Richford; grandchildren, Maddison, Caiden, Hunter, and Vayda; mother, Ilene Cooper of Swanton; siblings, Daniel Cooper and his wife Laura, and David Cooper and his wife Melissa; mother-in-law, Clarice Schuder; sibling-in-law, Karen Combs and her husband Mark, Elizabeth King and her husband Adam, Arthur Lewis, Althea McElhannon and her husband Michael, and Dawn Thomas and her husband Steve; special friends, Chuckie & Nancy McAllister, and Pete & Sally Combs; many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins; and his four legged companion, Bella. Besides his father, Coop was predeceased by a sister-in-law, Dawn Lewis.
