FAIRFIELD - Dwight "Ike" F. Callan, age 73, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, July 30, 2026 at his home in Fairfield.
He was born in St. Albans on August 20, 1952 to Gilberte (Pelletier) Callan and the late Ray Callan.
A life-long farmer and maple sugar maker, Dwight found joy in the great outdoors. Whether he was tending to his fields, cutting wood, or out in the woods deer hunting, he thrived in nature. As an avid reader of history and westerns, Dwight could finish a book in a single day. Known as the "Legend of Pumpkin Hill" Dwight was a familiar face throughout the community, always quick with a story and a laugh at his favorite spot - the West Enosburgh Country Store, where he held court with his own table and chair. Similarly, Dwight had his own stool at the sugarhouse. He took great pride in boiling maple syrup there and it was a very special place for him.
Dwight's heart belonged to his family. He was a dedicated husband to his wife Louise (Chauvin), they were married on September 8, 1973. He was a proud father to his children, and a doting grandfather. Dwight relished every moment spent hunting or supporting his grandchildren in their endeavors. Always ready to lend a hand, he supported his family in all their pursuits.
Dwight is survived by his loving wife, Louise Callan; his children and their families, Amy Gervais and her husband Gabe and their children, Emma, Kayla, and Ethan, Travis Callan and his significant other Tracy Wilsmann and his son, Damien, and Dan Callan and his wife Kelly and their children Molly, Sam, Boden, and William. Dwight is also survived by his mother, Gilberte Callan; his brother and sisters; and many nieces, nephews, and life-long buddies. Dwight was predeceased by his father, Ray Callan.
Friends & family are invited to Dwight's life celebration on Friday, August 7, 2026 to include a memorial service at 5:00 PM followed by visitation until 8:00 PM at the Goss-Spears Life Celebration Home, 96 Dickinson Avenue, Enosburg Falls, VT.
