Earl Machia

SHELDON – Earl A. Machia, age 87, passed away on July 24th, 2025, at St. Albans Health and Rehab in St. Albans, surrounded by his loved ones.

He was born on March 17th, 1938, in Franklin, VT to the late Clarence and Antoinette (Raymo) Machia.

Earl was a devoted truck driver for 60 plus years. He was also a devoted hobby farmer alongside his beloved wife, Bernice (Smith) Machia. He was a skilled truck driver, hauling hay, sawdust, fertilizer, and milk all over the countryside. His love for the land and his commitment to agriculture defined his legacy in the community of Sheldon, where he resided.

Beyond his agricultural endeavors, Earl had a passion for racing, often seen at the Milton Drag Strip, where he showcased his competitive spirit and love for speed. Earl's zest for life and his knack for adventure brought joy to those around him, and his lively stories will be cherished by many.

Earl is survived by his two children; Sandra Machia, and Gary Machia and his partner Helena Keenan; sister, Betty Parah; seven grandchildren, Jeremy, Tyler, Jesse Machia, Mariah, Megan, Morgan, Travis Jette and his wife Brittany; two great granddaughters, and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Earl was pre-deceased by his wife, Bernice Machia; children, Catherine, and Wayne Machia. Earl was one of seven children, six whom predecease him; Winston Machia and his wife Dorothy Clarence Machia, Horton Machia, Vivian Bishop and her husband Lawrence, and Claire and her husband Joe.

Friends and family are invited to Earl’s life celebration to include visitation from 4-7:00 PM on Friday, August 1st, 2025, at the Goss Life Celebration Home, 89 Grand Avenue, Swanton, VT. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, August 2nd, 2025, at 11:00 AM, located at the Church of the Nativity, 65 Canada Street, Swanton, VT. Interment will follow in Saint Anthony’s Cemetery in Sheldon Springs, VT.
