SAINT ALBANS - Edward "Bud" Hemond, age 79, peacefully passed away on February 21st, 2026, at the Northwestern Medical Center, surrounded by his loving family.
He was born on February 2nd, 1947, in Saint Albans VT, to the late Rose (Smith) and Edward Robert Hemond Sr.
A man of remarkable talent and vision, Bud began his career at Fonda Container and later went on to start Auto Town USA with his lifelong friend and brother-in-law, Gilbert Tremblay. His entrepreneurial spirit led him to launch Bud Hemond Construction, where he proudly built hundreds of homes, commercial buildings, condominiums, and developments. Among his many accomplishments, he was particularly proud of creating Maple Grove Estates, a project that showcased his dedication to quality and community. Bud was not only a prominent figure in the construction and real estate industry, but also a passionate sugar maker. He cherished the moments spent sugaring with family and friends, embracing a tradition that brought him immense joy and connected him deeply to the land he loved. Friends and family share countless memories of times spent at the quarry of Maple Grove Estates where Bud happily welcomed everyone. In his final days, Bud found great comfort in the presence of his beloved cats, Tabitha, and Tiger.
Above all, Bud was a family man. His true legacy lies within the hearts of his family and friends and all that knew him. He leaves behind a life filled with love and strength, which he passed along to his children and grandchildren, who were his pride and joy. Bud's warmth and kindness were felt by all who were fortunate to know him.
Bud is survived by his wife, Vicki Hemond; children, Lorna Meunier and her husband Jay, Jennifer DiNatale and her husband Mark, Danielle Kinney and her husband Jason, and Dana Gagnon; grandchildren, Justin Underwood, Jason Underwood, Quinn Meunier, Cameron Meunier, Hunter Kinney, Madison Kinney, Hudson Kinney and Clara Kinney; siblings, Darlene Gregoire and her husband Mark, Angie Paquette and her husband Ronald, Richard West and his wife Kristi; brother-in-law; Gilbert Tremblay; sister-in-law, Judy Hemond; first wife and "Husband-in-law"; Donna and Jim Galfetti, brothers-in-law, Pierre Pion and his wife Tiana, Andrew Pion and his wife Amy, Bernard Pion and Glen Pion; special friends, Ed White, Stewart Bryce, and Bruce Boardman; special nephew, Danny Pion; many nieces and nephews; care givers, Steve Ford and Stephanie Cleary. In addition to his parents, Bud was predeceased by his stepfather; Lynwood "Chick" West; siblings, Marie Tremblay, Paul Hemond, and Rita Howard; and Pat Underwood, father to Justin and Jason.
Friends & family are invited to Bud's life celebration to include visitation from 4-7:00 PM, on Wednesday, March 4th, 2026, at the Goss Life Celebration Home, 89 Grand Avenue, Swanton VT, followed by a Mass of Christian burial at 11:00 AM, on Thursday, March 5th, 2026, at the Holy Angels Catholic Church, 246 Lake Street, St. Albans City, VT, with a reception to follow. Interment will be held this spring at the Mount Calvary Cemetery, Saint Albans, VT.
