BAKERSFIELD - Elizabeth Veneta "Betty" West, age 86, widow of Leon West, passed away quietly in her sleep at home Friday evening August 24, 2007.
She was born May 6, 1921 in Montreal, Quebec Canada the daughter of the late Harold John Stubbs and Sarah Gertrude (Cooke) Stubbs.
Betty and her family moved to the United States from Canada in 1956 and was a resident of Fairfield until moving to Bakersfield in 1965. She graduated from MacDonald College with a teaching degree. She also attended Goddard College. She was employed as a Home School coordinator for the Headstart Program in Swanton for many years. Before her declining health she was an active member of the Bakersfield Congregational Church participating in the Bible Study Group and the Church Choir.
Betty enjoyed sewing and knitting. She also loved working with and caring for children receiving great enjoyment babysitting for local families.
She is survived by ; a sister Evelyn Malcolm of Montreal, Que., 2 daughters and their husbands, Leona & Donald Paul of Concord, NC and Vera & Alan Lawyer of Bakersfield; her son Harold West of Bakersfield, her grandchildren, Monica Hawke and her husband John, Heidi Paul, Kimberly Dugdale and her husband Ben, Jennifer Racine, Michael Lawyer, Marsha Lawyer, Brittany West, Leon West, and Lacey West; her great grandchildren, Logan & Meredith Hawke. Besides her parents she was predeceased by her husband, Leon West; a daughter, Dorcas Borucki; and a brother, John Stubbs
Funeral services will be held Saturday September 1, 2007 at 2:00 PM at the Bakersfield Congregational Church with Rev. Sue Marie Baskette officiating. Interment will be held at the convenience of the family in the Maple Grove Cemetery in Bakersfield.
Visiting hours will be held Friday from 7 - 9 pm at the Spears Funeral Home, 96 Dickinson Ave., Enosburg Falls.
Bettys family would like to thank the Franklin County Home Health Agency and all her wonderful Care Givers for the special care given to her during her illness.
