Francis "Sonny" Lumbra

June 24, 1936 — March 18, 2023

Francis "Sonny" Lumbra, Sr. was born on June 24, 1936, son of Lionel and Frances "Dorothy" Lumbra. Sonny passed away on March 18, 2023, with his loving wife and family by his side after a short illness.

Sonny was born on the Lumbra farm on North Hill Rd. in Montgomery Vermont. Once he finished eighth grade, he worked full-time on their jersey farm with his father until they had to sell the cows in 1963 moving his family to Montgomery Village in 1965. There they raised five children.

Francis met Lois Corse on June 28, 1957, at Hillside in Enosburg Falls, Vermont. She was the one!! So, on September 28, 1959, they got married and have celebrated 63 years together!

Sonny was a hard-working man all his life working for St. Onge's Construction. He worked many years for Maurice Hall doing Masonry work and then for Leonard Weed doing water work.

Our Dad was an amazing, loving father to his children. Dad would come home and fix all his kids bicycles, teaching us about life and the love and patience he showed us will never be forgotten. Dad had a wonderful sense of humor and wit!! He loved to laugh with family and friends.

Sonny is survived by his loving wife, Lois and his children: Veronica and her husband, Andre de Saint Phalle, Dale and his partner Patrick Cote, Penny Lumbra and daughter in law, Karen Lumbra.

PaPa is survived by his grandchildren, Samantha Elkins-Royer and Tyler Elkins, Robert Lumbra and Allysia Grakowsky and David Newton, Devon Lumbra and Jacob, Victoria, Danny and Michelle. He was a great-grandfather to Jayden, Shane, Natalie, Logan, Wyatt, Exavier Jerry, Teddy and Julian.

Francis leaves sisters: Betty Courville and Bertha Friedman and her husband Ed and all their family. Leaving several nieces and nephews.

Francis was predeceased by his son, Richard Lumbra and Frank Jr and his sisters Barbara and Shirley. Francis's grandparents, John and Corrine Vincent and Lewis and Minnie (Baker) Lumbra.

Bayada Hospice Care was contacted, and they accepted our request to help keep Sonny comfortable during his last days with us. I cannot say enough good things about their professionalism, every nurse that came here were so kind, supportive and loving. Many Thanks.

In lieu of flowers we will be having a Spring memorial for "Sonny" and "Frankie" at the Rec Center in Montgomery Center from noon to four - if you want to bring a casserole or a goodie to this Memorial on May 27, 2023, that would be greatly appreciated.
