Frederick Mashtare

Dec 19, 1969 — Jul 3, 2026

GRAND ISLE - With heavy hearts, we announce the unexpected passing of Frederick Stewart Mashtare on July 3, 2026, at his home in Grand Isle. Fred was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend to many.

He was born on December 19, 1969 in St. Albans to the late Millard & Glenda "Penny" (Ratta) Mashtare.

Fred dedicated his life to serving his community, spending 39 years on the local fire department where his contributions were immeasurable. He wasn't just a firefighter; he also played a crucial role in educating others through the North Country International Fire School, sharing his knowledge and passion for safety with countless individuals.

As a self-employed handyman, Fred had a remarkable knack for building and fixing just about anything. There wasn't a task too big or small for him. His heart was always open to helping others in their time of need, never asking for anything in return. Fred possessed the 'gift of gab,' effortlessly connecting with everyone he met. He was known for his kind nature and non-judgmental spirit, making friends wherever he went.

Fred was truly the definition of a family man. He cherished his wife, Tanya, and poured his heart into his family, especially his daughters and grandchildren, who brought him immeasurable joy. His legacy of love, compassion, and service will forever remain in the hearts of those he touched.

He is survived by his wife, Tanya Mashtare; their children, Courtney Mashtare and her fiancé Skyler Goodwin, Nikol Mashtare, and Danielle Mashtare; grandchildren, Skylynn and Grayson Goodwin; father-in-law, Eric Hart Sr.; siblings-in-law, Amy Mashtare, Eric Hart Jr. and his wife Jessica, and Justin Hart and his wife Lindsay; his cousin who was like a brother, Billy Lewis; several nieces & nephews and countless friends. Fred was predeceased by his parents, Millard & Penny Mashtare; his brother, Scott "Scooter" Mashtare; and his mother-in-law, Patricia Hart.
