Gary Riggs

BAKERSFIELD - Gary Frank Riggs was born on March 25th, 1949, and graduated from Champlain Valley High School.

Gary passed on Saturday, February 3rd at his home in Bakersfield, Vt with family by his side.

After graduation Gary joined the National Guard to serve his country before embarking on a career in the HVAC contracting profession. In 1979, along with his then business partner Hank Adams, he started Northeastern HVAC out of Gary's parents' garage, growing it to one of the largest HVAC companies in Vermont. In 2004 Gary acquired GDS Manufacturing, one of only three US based powder coating companies for the HVAC industry.

Gary was best known for his love of hunting with his hound pack. Along with his long-time friend, Gary Greenwood and others, they traipsed the mountains near and far enjoying the sounds of their hounds. Gary has been given the title of Founding Father of Bear Hunting by locals. Gary enjoyed bringing local kids on these hunts and keeping them awake into the wee hours.

Gary is survived by his wife of 55 years, Susan Bundy Riggs, his sons Clifford Riggs and his wife Arlene and Steven Riggs and his wife Nicole, and his daughter Kimberely Riggs. He leaves grandchildren Kyle Brown, Quinlin Riggs, Elizabeth Riggs, Ceara Riggs, Jeffery Halusic and Katherine Riggs as well as his brother Terry Riggs and his wife Mary Lynn, their children Liza, Tyler (Tucker) and Willard; his sister Dale Riggs and her husband Don. Gary was preceded by his father Frank Riggs, his mother Christine Moffett Riggs and his sister Sherry Riggs.

A celebration of Gary's life will be held during the afternoon of February 17th, 2024 for his friends and family at his much beloved home.

In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to Franklin Country Home Health in Gary's name. Because of their amazing support, Gary was able to stay in his home and pass peacefully and comfortably.
