ALBURGH - Georgia Morey, age 88, passed away peacefully on Thursday, May 30, 2019 at Northwestern Medical Center in St. Albans surrounded by good friends.
She was born in Strafford, Vermont on January 4, 1931 to the late Will & Mary Emma (Laber) Whitcomb.
Georgia married Irving Donald Morey, and although they were never blessed with any children of their own, somehow she had more children than anyone could possibly count. The overflowing love in her heart has earned her the title of Auntie Georgia by area kids from six to sixty and we all know: Georgia Morey will never stop cooking. She had the honor of cooking at the Mothers Lunch, Blarney Stone, LBJ, Seguins, the Village Inn, St. Annes Shrine and most recently The Islands in the Sun Senior Center. She started her cooking career in the 1940s and retired at the age of 80. She also enjoyed fishing, dancing, tag sales and the Tunbridge Fair. Georgia was a truly amazing lady that gave many years, days, and hours of her time to the Alburgh American Legion Auxiliary, holding several positions throughout the years. She was offering poppies on Memorial Day weekend, 2019. She will be greatly missed by so many people and remembered for her heart of gold and being the life of the party. She touched the lives of many Alburgh residents.
She is survived by many special friends, especially Joyce Ladd, Donna Larose and Todd Wizzy Letourneau; and her beloved dog, Sadie. Besides her parents, Georgia was predeceased by her husband, Irving Donald Morey; special friend, Everett Derosia; companion, Allard Mashtare Sr.; and many dear friends from the Alburgh community.
A celebration of life will be held on Sunday, June 9, 2019 at 3:00 PM at the American Legion Pavilion, Post 60, Alburgh.
For those who wish, contributions in Georgias memory can be made to the American Legion Auxiliary, Creller Landon, Unit 60, 871 Alburgh Springs Road, Alburgh, Vermont 05440 or C.I.D.E.R., P.O. Box 13, South Hero, VT 05486.
