UNDERHILL - Gerald Lagrow, of Underhill, passed away on October 31, 2026 at the age of 78.
Born and raised on a farm in Berkshire, Vermont, he carried with him throughout his life the values of hard work, humility, and dedication. He devoted 44 years to Vermont's telephone industry, beginning his career with New England Telephone and Telegraph and working through the many company transitions over the years, ultimately retiring from FairPoint Communications. A proud member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW), he took great pride in his work and the relationships he built along the way. His long career was a testament to his strong work ethic, loyalty, and dependability.
A lifelong sports enthusiast, he developed a love for baseball at an early age. Some of his favorite memories were tossing a ball around with his sons and, as they grew older, coaching their youth baseball teams. A devoted Red Sox fan, his love of sports extended to the Boston Bruins, UVM Catamounts, and, most importantly, cheering on and supporting his sons' hockey teams. He especially enjoyed attending UVM hockey games, eventually becoming a season ticket holder and sharing those experiences with his sons, friends, and coworkers.
Beyond sports, he had a deep appreciation for nature and a particular fondness for wolves. He also loved riding his motorcycle, taking several memorable trips across the country and enjoying the open road alongside friends. When he wasn't watching the news, baseball, or hockey, there was a good chance he could be found listening to the blues, another of his lifelong enjoyments.
Above all else, he was a devoted family man. He was a humble, honest, and gentle soul who rarely had a negative word to say about anyone. He had a remarkable ability to see the good in others, and his calm demeanor, kindness, and quiet strength left a lasting impression on everyone fortunate enough to know him. A true gentleman, he led by example and reminded those around him of the importance of treating others with kindness and respect.
His greatest love was his family, and that love will remain his most enduring legacy. He is survived by his sons, Jason and his wife Amber, Matthew and his wife Carrie, and Zachary; the mother of his children, Elizabeth (Dufais) Lagrow; his sister, Gaye; his brother, Joel; and his grand-children, Josh, Levi, Madison, Macy, Noah, Clare, Zachary, and Taylor. He was predeceased by his siblings, Carol and John; his parents, Gerald and Marjorie; and his stepmother, Barb. He will be deeply missed, lovingly remembered, and forever cherished by those whose lives he touched.
