Gerald Wells

June 1, 1950 — July 21, 2025

SWANTON - It is with profound sadness that the family of Gerald Lewis Wells announce his passing in the early morning hours of July 21, 2025, peacefully at the age of 75 at his home in Swanton, Vermont. Jerry was born on June 1, 1950, in Burlington, Vermont to Ruth E. Dalley. After a brief stay at St. Joseph's orphanage, he was adopted by Anthony and Lorraine (Campano) Wells. Jerry grew up in Fairfax, Vermont with his parents and little brother, "Butch". Jerry attended Holy Angels elementary school and then graduated from BFA, Fairfax in 1969. Jerry was a Boy Scout at a young age, and eventually became a Scoutleader.

Jerry joined the United States Navy in 1969 and served on the USS Little Rock, USS Allen M Sumner, and USS Holder. In 1976, he moved to Swanton with his wife and two children. He worked at the Brown's Foundry for many years making metal molds. After retirement Jerry spent many of his evening hours at the local Mobile gas station taking care of stock and visiting with regular customers. With his military service, Jerry joined the American Legion and enjoyed his time with other veterans.

Jerry spent most of his free time at his camp in Isle La Motte where he had many friends. He enjoyed hunting with his brother and went fishing whenever he had a chance. Jerry was always helping anyone he could, including people he didn't like, always willing to give his shirt off his back. Jerry was a man of many collections. He loved sending birthday and anniversary cards to as many family and friends that he could. Jerry was a member of the Church of the Nativity in Swanton, and the little Brown Church in Alburgh and enjoyed Bible studies with his friends. If you didn't find Jerry in any of those places, he was tending to his summer garden, his lawn care, or his plants that he had an abundance of.

Jerry will be greatly missed, he is survived by his loving children, Steve and Jennifer; the mother of his children, Sue; his grandchildren, Dustin and Gavin; his brother, Clement Wells and sister-in-law, Rita in Essex; his brother Patrick in Chicago; his sisters Robin in Philadelphia, and Sue in New Jersey; his nephew Tony (Meredith); nieces Bonnie (Michael), Kristina (Michael), Melissa (John), Christine (Pete), Kathleen, Mary Ellen, and Sandy; and many grand nieces and nephews. Jerry had many close friends including Rene, Pastor Andrew, and many more to great to mention. Jerry was predeceased by his mother and father, Lorraine and Anthony; birth mother, Ruth; brothers-in-law, Bob and Russell, and nephew, Tom.
