FRANKLIN – Gilles R. Gagne, age 75, passed away peacefully on February 13, 2022 at the Franklin Carriage House.
He was born in St. Albans on December 26, 1946 to the late Elphege & Dora (Lussier) Gagne.
Gilles attended Sacred Heart in Newport, Ste. Anne’s Academy in Swanton, and continued his education at the Warner Home in St. Albans. He lived at the Swanton School Apartments for several years after his parents passed, before relocating to the Franklin Carriage House just a couple of years ago. Gilles loved to drive his red Oldsmobile, and his moped, especially to his brother’s campground where they would have BBQ’s. He enjoyed family gatherings and big meals and helping his siblings as much as he could. He loved helping out with maple sugaring, gathering and sampling sap, tending to the sawmill, traveling to Florida to visit family, attending a family reunion where he could chit chat with several generations of family, and he loved to show off pictures of the cruise he went on with his dad and Claude. Gilles drove his father everywhere after his mom passed, to visit family, to church and to doctors’ appointments. Cerebral palsy limited some of his abilities, but he made the very best of each and every day!
He is survived by his brothers, Aurele and his wife Diane of Highgate, Gilbert and his wife Karen of Florida, Marcel and his wife Jiennette of Highgate Center, Claude and his wife Mariette of North Carolina, and Fernand and his wife Patricia of Highgate Springs; several special nieces, nephews, and cousins; and a special friend, Johanne Bellavance of Montreal. Besides his parents, Gilles was predeceased by two nephews.
Family and friends are invited to Gilles Life Celebration events to include visitation on Friday, February 18, 2022 from 9:30-10:30 AM at the Goss Life Celebration Home, 89 Grand Avenue, Swanton. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11:00 AM at the Church of the Nativity, 65 Canada Street, Swanton, VT. Interment will take place in the Spring in the family plot in St. Louis Catholic Cemetery, Highgate.
For those who wish, contributions in Gilles’s memory may be made to the charity of your choice.
