RICHFORD - It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Hattie A. Mayotte. She went to heaven, to be with her late husband Ralph, and son Timmy on Tuesday, August 12, 2025 just two weeks shy of her 99th birthday.
She was born on August 26, 1926 to the late George & Hazel (Doe) Paxman and grew up in Montgomery and South Richford.
Hattie attended elementary school in Montgomery in a one-room schoolhouse now known as The Belfry. She then went to the Montgomery Center School for grades 9 and 10 before attending Richford High School where she graduated with the class of 1945.
She met Ralph Mayotte at a dance and from there they started dating. They later married on July 27, 1952. In her earlier years, she was a homemaker but worked Saturday nights at the Wedel Inn in Montgomery. When her children were older, she went to work for the hot lunch program at Richford Elementary School. She was there for 33 years, retiring in June of 2003. She was so humbled when she was given a retirement dinner party. She often spoke about how wonderful the people were that she worked with.
Hattie enjoyed puzzles, reading, lawn sales, The Young & The Restless. But most important was her family. She loved family gatherings and felt blessed to have lived long enough to enjoy her great-grandchildren. Ben, Daniel, and Hannah often gave her gifts of dandelions, little stones, and drawings which she treasured. Time spent with them always brightened her day.
She is survived by her daughter, Jane Lariviere and her husband Marc, grandson, Nicholas Boylan and his wife Laura, great grandchildren, Ben, Daniel and Hannah Boylan. Also, by Timmy's children, Rossie and Ethan Mayotte, and several nieces & nephews. She was predeceased by her parents, husband Ralph, son, Timothy, brother, Ernest (Marjorie) Paxman, and sisters, Beulah (Everett) Jones and Kathleen (Fred) Foster.
Hattie's family would like to thank the staff of Our Lady of the Meadows for the loving care she received. Additionally, they would like to thank her dear neighbor from the Missisquoi Manor, Ilene Cooper, for all of her kindness and support over the past several years.
Friends and family are invited to Hattie's life celebration on Monday, August 18, 2025 to include visitation from 2-3:00 PM followed with a funeral service at 3:00 PM at the Goss-Spears Life Celebration Home, 96 Dickenson Ave., Enosburg Falls, VT. Interment will follow in Richford Center Cemetery.
