Irene Scott

August 25, 1911 — February 15, 2008

MONTGOMERY / ENOSBURG FALLS - Irene (Chase) Scott, age 96, widow of Carl Joe Scott, passed away Friday February 15, 2008 at the Northwestern Medical Center in St. Albans.

She was born August 25, 1911 in Lowell the daughter of the late Harry & Ruby (Wescom) Chase.

Irene attended Montpelier Seminary and started teaching at the age of nineteen, teaching in the Montgomery school system for 42 years. On June 21, 1935 she married Carl Joe Scott and resided on a farm on West Hill for many years where she would help Joe with sugaring and many other farm chores. They later started Eagle Lodge & Inn on Route 242 in Westfield. They operated this venture for 35 years. They also spent time in Ormand Beach, FL during the winter months.

She was a member of the Montgomery Methodist Church and in August of 1993 Irene and Joe were recognized as the only 50 year couple of the church. She was also a member of the Montgomery Historical Society. She was a former member of the former Tyler Branch Grange and in September of 1993 Irene and Joe were recognized by the National Grange for 50 years of Grange service.

Irene enjoyed quilting, crocheting and knitting. She was an avid reader and kept up with local and world news until the end.

She is survived by a son and his wife, Dean & Carmen Scott of Montgomery Center; 2 grandchildren and their spouses, Dean Matthew & Pamela Scott of Enosburg Falls, and Deanna Lynn & Christopher Jenness of Derby; a great granddaughter, Bryn Alli Jenness of Derby; 4 step great grandchildren, Matthew, Michael, & Mary Greenan and Michelle Billodeau; and 2 step great great grandchildren, Anthony & Riley Greenan; many nieces and nephews and cousins including a special nephew, John Jack Quinn, and special friends, Irene Lamarche and Janice Geraw. Besides her parents she was predeceased by her husband Carl Joe Scott on December 25, 1993. They were married June 21, 1935. Also, an infant daughter, Carlene Scott; brother, Glendon Chase; and step brother, Carl White.

A memorial service will be held Saturday February 23, 2008 at 11:00 at the Montgomery Methodist Church with Pastor Ed Sorrell officiating. Interment will take place this spring in the Montgomery Village Cemetery.
