Janet Katharyn Oman Ladd, beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away peacefully at the age of 94. Her life was a shining example of wisdom, generosity, and grace. Her loving presence will be profoundly missed by all who knew her.
Janet was the devoted wife of the late Jed Ladd, with whom she shared a deep love for their treasured home at "The Carry" in North Hero, Vermont. This beloved property, nestled in the natural beauty of Lake Champlain, was originally created by her parents Gus and Helen Oman, along with Janet and her brother, John. It became the heart of the family-a gathering place where generations came together, filled with laughter, stories, and the warmth that only Janet could provide.
She was the loving mother of four daughters: Katharyn Boardman (David), Cynthia Walsh (Stephen), Diana Graser (Michael), and Deborah Ramsey (David). Her legacy continues through her seven grandchildren-Anna, Sara, Alison, Margaret, Janet, Ellen, and Jonathan-and nine great-grandchildren-Nicholas, Dorothy, Ida, Vincent, Charlotte, Meryl, Elsie, Helen, and Simon-each of whom she deeply loved.
Janet was predeceased by her husband Jed, her brother, and her beloved parents. Her Swedish heritage, passed down through her father, was a proud and meaningful part of her life.
Janet was born in Rockville Centre, Long Island, New York. She graduated from Plattsburgh High School before pursuing a career in nursing, completing her training through the Mary Fletcher Nurses Training Program. Her work life evolved over the years to include service with the United States Post Office and later a long and respected career as the Grand Isle County Executive Director of ASCS (Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation Service).
An avid gardener, Janet was very knowledgeable and had a true gift for growing beautiful flowers and plants. Whether in the garden or the kitchen, or simply sitting on the deck watching the lake, her joy came from spending time with the people she loved.
Janet had a soft spot for every dog and cat that crossed her path-and a surprising number did. Her home was a haven for furry friends, all of whom somehow knew they'd hit the jackpot with her lap, her leftovers, and her belly rubs.
Her family will remember her for her warm hugs, her wise advice, and for providing unconditional love. She had a kind spirit and an unforgettable smile, and she made each person she spoke with feel like the most important person in the world.
In lieu of flowers, the family encourages donations to C.I.D.E.R in her memory. C.I.D.E.R's address is: P.O. Box 13, South Hero, Vermont 05486, or donations can be made online at https://www.cidervt.org/Annual-Fund.
