Janette Ducey

BERKSHIRE - Janette Howe Ducey, age 67, passed away in her sleep at home on Sunday, May 25th, 2025 after a hard fought 8-year battle with cancer.

She was born August 4th, 1957 in Randolph, VT to Ernest and Emily (Rogers) Howe.

Janette was the youngest of five children, with multiple cousins from both clans. She attended Tunbridge Elementary School, participated in 4-H and church youth activities. She graduated from South Royalton High School in 1975 and from the University of Vermont in 1979, with a Bachelor's Degree in plant & soil science.

Janette married William R. Ducey on December 1, 1982. They lived in Richmond and Huntington until moving to West Berkshire to renovate an old farm. She worked at Grand Union and Hannaford in the greater Burlington area and continued to commute after his death on August 10, 1996.

A neighbor introduced Janette to Ken Sweet and they became partners in many adventures, including haying and logging. Together they welcomed Aaron Patrick Sweet on September 16, 1999, born in St. Albans during Hurricane Floyd.

After Ken's death on April 2, 2015, she and Aaron continued to live on the farm on Pleasant View Road. Janette continued her grocery career in Enosburg Falls with Hannaford, where she enjoyed her co-workers and customers.

Janette enjoyed the outdoors, all plants, making her own costumes for every holiday and fair food. She had an eclectic collection of earrings. She worked in the Tunbridge Floral Hall every year for the fair. She enjoyed summer reads and road trips with her special pal, Betsey Larose. She was always a joy to her family, friends and continued to be a people person to the end.

Janette is survived by her son, Aaron Sweet, his partner Alyx of Berkshire; brothers, Randall (Robin) of Claremont, NC, and Arnold (Kim) of Coeur D'Alene, ID; sister, Elaine Howe; sister-in-law, Nancy Bascom Howe, both of Tunbridge; and many nieces and nephews scattered throughout the country. In addition to her parents and husbands, Janette was predeceased by her oldest brother, Edward Howe.

Friends & family are invited to Janette's life celebration on Thursday, June 5, 2025 to include visitation from 5-6:00 PM followed with a memorial service at 6:00 PM at the Goss-Spears Life Celebration Home, 96 Dickinson Avenue, Enosburg Falls, VT. A celebration of her life will be held in Tunbridge at a later date.
