SAINT ALBANS- Jean V. Burnell, born February 15, 1936, in Richmond, Vermont, will soon celebrate her 90th birthday, a life rich in love, devotion, and kindness. It was in Richmond that she met her forever partner, Robert H. Burnell Sr. They shared a beautiful 70-year marriage until Bob's passing on January 5, 2025. A part of Jean went with him that day, for their lives were deeply intertwined in every way that matters.
Jean is survived by her son, Robert H. Burnell Jr. and his partner Victoria Morin; her daughter, Kathleen Brown and her partner Christopher Hamilton; grandchildren Robert H. Burnell III and his partner Melanie Lussier, Nicole Burnell and her husband Benjamin Nicolas, Samantha Burnell and her partner Patrick Branon, Alex Burnell and his wife Kat Burnell, Kyle Brown and his wife Jennifer Brown, and Casey Brown; as well as eight beloved great-grandchildren who brought her endless joy.
The very best part of Jean was her ability to see goodness in everyone, even strangers. She always believed the best of people and lived her life with kindness, generosity, and deep devotion to family. Her home was the heart of her world, especially when it was filled with grandchildren swimming, laughing, and growing under her watchful, loving eye. "Gram" gave her grandchildren unwavering love, fierce protection, and constant belief in who they were becoming.
Jean and Bob's 70-year marriage was a true partnership, built on compromise, respect, loyalty, and deep affection. Though she was a stay-at-home mom, Jean was rarely still. She devoted countless hours to her community through fundraising, coaching, school involvement, church activities, and helping wherever she was needed. When she lost Bob, her light dimmed, and for the first time in her adult life, she faced the world without her constant companion.
Jean was diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease some time ago, but her love for her family remained stronger than the illness. She never forgot the faces or names of those she cherished. While the details of days might fade, the warmth of her beautiful life never did, and for that, her family is forever grateful.
Jean's legacy is one of love freely given, goodness always assumed, and family fiercely cherished. She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered.
In respecting Jean's wishes, there will be no public services held for her.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in Jean's memory may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, 75 Talcott Rd STE 40, Williston, VT 05495.
