John Cluba

Oct 24, 1952 — Jun 19, 2026

John Joseph Cluba, 73, of Montgomery, left this earth peacefully on Friday, June 19th, 2026, in the arms of his loving wife, Lynda, after a courageous battle with cancer.

John was born on October 24, 1952 in Kaiserslautern, Germany, and was adopted at the age of 10 months along with his twin brother, Frank, by Joseph J. and Pauline (Stanhope) Cluba.

The family moved back to the States and relocated to East Berkshire, Vermont. Growing up John spent many summers on the Stanhope family farm in Enosburgh. Polly later married John Deuso and John moved to Montgomery Ctr, Vt. He graduated from Enosburg High School in Enosburg Falls, Vt in 1971. In 1973, John met his future wife, Lynda (Pittman), and so began their journey together. They were married on August 9, 1980, in Berkshire, Vt.

John started his painting business, Cluba Painting, Inc., in the early 1970s. He and Lynda moved to Orlando, Fl. in 1980, returning to the home they built in Montgomery upon its completion in 1988. Cluba Painting continued to grow into a very successful business thanks to John's hard work, business acumen, strong work ethic, and Type A personality.

If you lived in Montgomery for more than a minute, you knew John. He had a huge personality, a quick wit and wicked sense of humor, and a tendency towards "colorful" language, a trait that earned him the nickname Johnny 'F' Cluba. John enjoyed golf, mowing his lawn at breakneck speeds on his John Deere, keeping his yard weed-free with a flamethrower, riding his snowmobile in the winter, spending time with his family, especially his granddaughters, working, and assigning odd nicknames to his friends. He was also a voracious reader, especially of true crime novels.

John is survived by the love of his life, his devoted and loving wife, Lynda of 53 years; his daughter Morgan Cluba and her husband Anthony Gervais of Sequim, Wa; his son Elliot Cluba and wife Shekhinah of Montgomery; granddaughters Torah'Yah and Binah Cluba and Nyneve and Amma Cluba-Gervais; stepbrother Robert "George" Deuso and partner Brenda Charbono of Casselberry, Fl.; stepsisters Betty Marcy and husband Russell of Richford, Vt and Diane Pritchard and husband Owen, of Lake City, Fl; several nephews, nieces and cousins and many friends, all of whom will miss him dearly. John was predeceased by his mother, Pauline (Polly) Deuso; father Joseph Cluba; stepfather, John Deuso; and by his twin brother, best friend and partner in crime, Frank Merritt Cluba.

There will be a Memorial Party for Johnny at a time and date to be announced later this summer at the home he and Lynda shared in Montgomery.

In lieu of flowers, the family would love to have contributions made to Franklin County Animal Rescue of St. Albans, Vt, in John's honor.
