Joseph Shortsleeve

August 21, 1955 — October 4, 2025

WINOOSKI– Joseph A. Shortsleeve, age 70, passed away unexpectable on Saturday, October 4th, 2025, located at his residence.

Joseph was born on August 21st, 1955, in Burlington, VT to the late Raymond and Mary (Moquin) Shortsleeve.

Joseph was a remarkable painter whose talent and artistic flair were matched only by his hands-on skills in construction. He found joy in transforming driftwood into stunning carvings, leaving behind a legacy of creativity that will inspire those who knew him. A passionate outdoorsman, Joseph cherished every moment spent ice fishing and casting lines during the warmer months. Joseph had a passion for hunting, rarely missing a day afield, embracing the solitude and serenity nature provided. This love for the wilderness mirrored his approach to life: taking time to appreciate the world around him and the connections he forged with family and friends. The thrill of the catch was only surpassed by the laughter shared with friends and family. Every Saturday night, he looked forward to gathering around the table for spirited card games, where his playful banter and competitive spirit brought everyone closer together.

Joseph was also a proud former Golden Glove boxer, a testament to his fighting spirit and determination. He walked everywhere with unwavering resolve, believing that no distance was too far if it meant connecting with those he loved. He shared many of life’s adventures with his late, dearly departed brothers, Raymond Jr. and Randy, who were always by each other’s side.

Joseph is survived by his three children, Amy Mathieu and her husband Randy, Brenda Lee Gregory and her husband Tommy, and Jo Marie Shortsleeve-Marshall and her husband Eddie; 7 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; siblings, David Shortsleeve Sr. and his wife Doris, Judy Shortsleeve, Donald Shortsleeve and his wife Patty, Mary Rose Bergeron, Susan Dudley, Steven Shortsleeve and his wife Kathy, Julie Fields and her husband Doug, Jennifer Kellog and her husband Norman, and Sally Ashline and her husband Donald; and multiple nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Joseph was pre-deceased by his brothers, Raymond Shortsleeve Jr., and Randy Shortsleeve.

Friends and family are invited to Joseph’s life celebration to include visitation from 11-12:00 PM on Friday, October 10th, 2025, at the Goss-Spears Life Celebration Home, 96 Dickinson Ave, Enosburg Falls, VT.
