HIGHGATE - Judy Vanslette, age 64, passed away on Tuesday, August 20, 2024 at the Brookdale Senior Living community in Bennington.
She was born on September 9, 1959 to the late David & Joyce (Early) Read.
Judy was a proud graduate of Enosburg Falls High School class of 1977 and Champlain College class of 1979. On August 11, 1979 she married John Vanslette and they raised their family in Highgate Springs. Known for her sharp mind, sense of humor, and meticulous work ethic, Judy dedicated many years to her career as an accountant and bookkeeper, bringing her expertise to businesses such as the village of Swanton, Swanton Packing, the town of Swanton, including the Library, O.C. McCuin's, and the town of Highgate as their tax collector.
A passionate and die-hard Boston Red Sox fan, Judy found immense joy in watching games at Fenway Park and cheering on her favorite team. She also had a love for the beach in Florida, where she enjoyed soaking up the sun and the sound of crashing waves. Additionally, Judy's talent as a trap shooter took her all over Vermont, Florida, and Canada to compete in matches, showcasing her skill and dedication in the sport.
Judy leaves behind a legacy of hard work, love for sports, and a competitive spirit. She loved to play cards and Yahtzee and loved to win!
Left to cherish her memory are her daughters, Morgan McCuin and her husband Bret of Highgate Springs, and Michelle Miller and her husband James of Buskirk, NY; granddaughter, Caitlin McCuin; her siblings, Gary Read and his wife Kathy, and Shelley Howrigan and her husband Daniel; and several nieces & nephews. In addition to her parents, Judy was predeceased by her husband, John Vanslette.
Judy's family would like to thank the staff from Brookdale Senior Living Community, especially her nurse Tenielle, and Bayada Hospice for the care she received.
Friends & family are invited to Judy's life celebration on Saturday, August 31, 2024 to include a memorial service at 2:00 PM at the West Swanton Methodist Church, 26 Church Road, Swanton, VT. Interment will be held at the family's convenience in St. John the Baptist Cemetery in Enosburg Falls.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in Judy's memory may be made to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, P.O. Box 5009, Hagerstown, MD 21741.
