SWANTON – Laura Ann Mott

January 25, 1936 – August 26, 2025

Laura Ann Mott, age 89, passed away peacefully in her sleep on August 26th, 2025, at her beloved childhood home on Spring Street in Swanton, Vermont. She left this world just as she lived with grace, love, and her devoted husband of 62 years, Robert Mott, by her side.

Laura Ann was known for her unwavering love of family, her generous spirit, and her remarkable gift for conversation. She could talk to anyone, anywhere, and had a way of making everyone feel seen, valued, and loved whether through a plate of her infamous baked goods, a funny story, or a heartfelt hug. Her life was defined by kindness, resilience, and a warmth that left a lasting imprint on everyone who knew her.

Born on January 25, 1936, in Swanton, Laura Ann was the daughter of Sanford Sr. and Laura (Wilbur) Prouty. She was the last remaining Prouty child and now joins her siblings on the other side: William (Ruby) Prouty, Frances (Jake) Choiniere, Sanford Jr. (Connie) Prouty, and Nancy (Bill) Sheldon. She leaves behind her in-laws George (Marilyn), David “Skookie” (Tina), and was predeceased Edna, and Ronald.

Laura Ann remained deeply connected to her family throughout her life. In her later years, she even learned how to text and joined Facebook just to stay close to the people she loved—including her many nieces, nephews, and lifelong friends in the Swanton community.

Laura Ann graduated at the top of her class from Swanton High School in 1954, setting the tone for a life of determination and dedication. She began her career in the office at Pfizer in Rouses Point, New York, where she worked for over 37 years with loyalty and pride. A woman of service, she also played a foundational role in the Swanton Fire Department’s Women’s Auxiliary, where she served as treasurer.

The love story between Laura Ann and Robert began at a local bowling alley, where Laura Ann invited him out for a drink. One Black Label beer later, their lifelong adventure began. They were married on May 24, 1963, in Ludlow, Vermont, and together they built a home full of laughter, adventure, and unconditional love.

Laura Ann is survived by her beloved husband and best friend, Robert, and their children: Jeffrey (Kim), Allan, and honorary daughter Sue (Mark). She was a proud and loving grandmother to Jessica, Dustin, Shayne (Hannah), Zackariah, and Haley (Austin), and a cherished great-grandmother to Charlie Ann, Trisha, Daxton, Kaysen, Hudson, and Marshall.

A creative soul with a deep love for her community, Laura Ann found joy in painting, crafting, playing bingo, visiting the casinos, and selling her delicious handmade goods on Merchants Row. She loved trips to Amish country, where she admired the simplicity and warmth of their traditions. At home, she could often be found in her recliner watching The Price is Right, Wheel of Fortune, Jeopardy or any game show that let her play along - always sharp, always competitive. She was also a loyal Red Sox fan, cheering them on through every season, no matter the record.

With a heart full of love and a spirit grounded in purpose, Laura leaves behind a legacy of generosity and laughter. She was a woman who knew what she wanted and lived with determination. She truly lived life on her own terms and loved fiercely. She taught us to find joy in the little things, to take chances, and, above all, to love with our whole hearts.

The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to all who visited Laura Ann during her final days. Special gratitude goes to the nurses who showed her such loving care, especially Nikki and Darlene, for helping her spend her final days at home - exactly where she wanted to be.

Laura Ann will be deeply missed, but we take comfort in knowing she is no longer in pain. This isn’t goodbye, it’s “see you soon, honey.” Her memory will live on through each and every person whose life she touched.

In lieu of flowers, bake your neighbor some banana bread, give the birds some special treats, and call your friends and family just to say hello. Consider a random act of kindness, take some time to smell the roses, and visit the ones you love.

In accordance with the family’s wishes, there will be no funeral services.
