Lorraine Mumley

May 27, 1929 — December 5, 2025

ALBURGH - Lorraine Marie Theresa Mumley, age 96, peacefully passed away on Friday, December 5, 2025, at her home surrounded by her loving family.

She was born on May 27, 1929, in Alburgh VT, to the late Joseph Dolphis & Rose (Rochon) Poissant

Lorraine was united in marriage to her beloved husband Calvin Mumley on September 29, 1951, at Saint Amadeus Church, in Alburgh VT, a place where she was an integral part of the community throughout her life. A dedicated public servant, she served as Alburgh's Town Clerk for many years and was well-respected for her contributions to local governance and public administration. Lorraine was a vibrant spirit, known for her love of card games, particularly bridge, in which she found joy and camaraderie.

She also enjoyed playing Spades on her iPad. An avid gardener, she took pride in cultivating beautiful flowers and was skilled in knitting and cooking, sharing her gifts generously with those around her. Lorraine cherished Lake Champlain, the islands and Alburgh, reveling in its beauty and the serene moments it afforded her. She was a tireless advocate for her community, ever hopeful about its future. A passionate enthusiast of history and antiques, Lorraine was a founding member of the Alburgh Historical Society and served as the Town Historian. Lorraine was extremely well known and respected as an antique dealer; and together with her late husband Calvin, Lorraine founded and owned Mumley's Antiques, a treasured business that became a cornerstone of the Vermont antique community. Their passion for antiques not only fostered a love for history but also created a welcoming space where stories were exchanged, and memories were made. Her commitment extended to being an active member of the Alburgh Public Library, a devoted lifelong parishioner of Saint Amadeus Catholic Church and a member of the Islands in the Sun Senior Center. Additionally, she was involved with the Creller-Landon Post #60 Auxiliary and was a proud member of the Grand Isle County Democratic Party. An American at heart, Lorraine held her patriotism dear and instilled a sense of pride in her family and community.

She is survived by her children: Cathy Tatro and her husband Lance, Thomas Mumley and his wife Terri Lynn, and Lisa Arnold and her husband John; grandchildren: Sarah Carson and her husband Peter, Elizabeth Tatro and her husband Peter Staunton, Ryan Mumley, Travis Arnold, and Noah Arnold and his significant other, Meghan Mello; great grandchildren: Kamen, Kennedy, Rose, Eric, and Sophie; siblings: Paul Poissant and his wife Anne; sister-in-law, Betty Ann Poissant; many nieces, nephews, and cousins; and her grand-dog, Bentley.

In addition to her parents, Lorraine was predeceased by her loving husband, Calvin Mumley; grandson, Eric Tatro; and brother Bernard Poissant. The family extends sincerest gratitude and love to dear friend and caregiver, Roxanne McMillan. Thanks is also extended to UVM Home Health and Hospice, especially Katelyn McGrath, RN and Sarah Carter, RN.

A mass of Christian burial will be held on December 30, 2025, at 12:00 PM at the Saint Amadeus Catholic Church, 75 South Main Street, Alburgh.
