Margaret Rose Capsey, age 79 of Swanton, Vermont and Boca Raton, FL passed away unexpectedly at Delray Trauma Medical Center on April 25, 2025 from complications of a recent detection of a tumor in her neck and extensive lack of oxygen from choking.
Margaret was the daughter of the late Euclide and Emilia (Smith) Duhamel. Margaret was born on December 3, 1945 in St. Albans, VT and lived all of her life in Swanton, until the last few years she shared her time in Boca Raton, FL and Swanton. Margaret was predeceased by her husband Stanley Capsey in January, 2022. Margaret married Stanley on February 27, 1965 at The Church of the Nativity in Swanton.
Margaret attended Swanton Catholic School and St. Mary's and entered the workforce immediately after graduation at Union Carbide (most recently known as Energizer Battery Company) where she worked more than 40 years until her retirement on the production line and as a lab technician. She also worked on her own farm with Stanley raising cows and had a firewood business for many years. Margaret also helped Stanley to build houses and has apartment rentals.
Margaret is survived by her daughter, Ann Capsey-Morel and her husband Ramon of Boca Raton, and her son, Stan Capsey, Jr. ("Junior") and his wife Christa of Swanton, VT, brother in-law & sister in-law, Henry and Tina Capsey of Highgate Center, VT and 3 grandchildren: Gabriela Morel of Boca Raton, FL, Emily Samson and family of San Tan Valley, AZ and step-granddaughter Elizabeth Johnson and family of St. Albans, VT as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, 4 great-grandchildren, and many extended relatives in the U.S. and Canada.
Margaret enjoyed her flower gardens and vegetable gardens. She always looked forward to planting in the Spring. She was well-known to do a lot of canning of tomatoes, string beans, beets, and pickles throughout the years. She also loved to bake and would spend every Saturday morning baking pies, cakes, and cookies for her family to enjoy. She was an excellent cook and baker, which she learned from her mother.
Margaret loved to travel to Florida to spend time with her daughter and her family. She enjoyed the ocean and going for boat rides. She enjoyed trips to Disney throughout the year and was an Annual Passholder. She enjoyed attending the CMA Fest (Country Music Association) in Nashville every June to see her favorite singers and visiting the Grand Ole Opry to see Carrie Underwood. She loved going to concerts and went to many every year. She traveled a lot with her daughter and granddaughter, Gabriela after she retired. She enjoyed her summer trips to visit the Amish people in Lancaster, PA. She was very passionate about celebrating Christmas and would love to go Christmas shopping and to decorate the house. She enjoyed visiting Pigeon Forge, TN and staying at the Inn at Christmas Place where Christmas is celebrated all year! She enjoyed taking rides around town to look at Christmas decorations and especially enjoyed going to Disney during the Christmas season because she thought it was the most festive time of the year. She enjoyed watching the Game Show Network and was a faithful viewer of The Price is Right, Wheel of Fortune, Family Feud, and Jeopardy. She was a fan of the popular soap opera, The Young & The Restless. She enjoyed relaxing at night doing Word Search puzzles and drinking a can of Coke. Margaret was known as a hard-worker to all who knew her and was known to not take much rest. She always said she did not require much sleep! She always had a long "To Do List" and was always painting something. She had an endless amount of energy and an incredible work ethic. She enjoyed the warm Florida weather during the winter months where she could enjoy sitting at the beach or by the pool, going for boat rides or dining by the water. She loved the fall season in Vermont for its majestic foliage and enjoyed going for rides. Margaret was very involved with her family and attended all of her granddaughter, Gabriela's ballroom dance recitals, violin concerts, and figure skating lessons and shows. Margaret enjoyed playing Yahtzee, 500 Rummy, and 500 card game. Margaret was a very caring, loving and generous person. She had a desire to live a long life and be with her family. She was looking forward to many more travel adventures. She was a wonderful person who will be missed by everyone who knew her, but especially by her family who loved her so much and is heartbroken from her unexpected passing.
The calling hours will be on Friday, June 27, 2025 from 5 pm to 8 pm at The Goss Life Celebration Home at 89 Grand Avenue in Swanton, VT. The funeral will be held on Saturday, June 28, 2025 at 11 am at The Church of the Nativity at 65 Canada Street in Swanton with burial to be followed at St. Louis Catholic Cemetery on Lamkin Street in Highgate Center, VT. A luncheon in Margaret's honor to celebrate her life will be held at her home at 217 St. Albans Rd. in Swanton.
Donations in Margaret's memory can be made to St. Jude Catholic Church in Boca Raton, FL to have a mass given in her honor.
A special thank you to the West Boca EMT and the Delray Trauma Medical Center Emergency Room doctors and nurses who worked diligently to save her life. A special thank you to Dr. Espino-Grosso, Urologist who cured Margaret of her excruciating kidney stone problems the last two years. A special thank you to Father John, Miss Armstrong, Mrs. Higgins and staff of St. Jude Catholic Church & School in Boca Raton who were always very supportive and caring.
