Mary Donna

RICHFORD - Mary Donna, age 96, passed away on Tuesday, January 13, 2026 at the Brownway Residence in Enosburg Falls.

She was born in Richford on April 19, 1929 to the late Giles & Leila Fletcher.

Mary lived a life full of love, hard work, and devotion to her family and community. A true homemaker, farmer, and sugar maker, she was a guiding light and cornerstone of her family, dedicating her life to raising her children and nurturing her home.

Mary married the love of her life, Herschel Donna, on October 4, 1947. Together, they carved a life rich with purpose as they worked side by side on their dairy farm and maple sugaring operation, instilling in their children the values of hard work and dedication. After their retirement from the farm, Mary continued to work alongside Herschel as the custodian of Berkshire Elementary School and the Richford Methodist Church, where her meticulous nature ensured that both places sparkled with care and warmth.

A long-time member of the Richford Methodist Church, Mary devoted countless hours to serving her community through church suppers, Christmas bazaars, and lawn sales. Her hands were never idle, as she tended to her beautiful gardens for 71 years with the same love and devotion she gave to her family. Mary found joy in listening to country music and playing cards, especially the game of 500, often sharing laughter and companionship with those she loved.

Mary and Herschel shared a sense of adventure that took them across the globe, visiting places such as Alaska, Germany, Ireland, the Canadian Rockies, California, and many memorable trips to Branson, Missouri. They embraced life together, and their shared experiences created an abundance of cherished memories.

She is survived by her children and their families, Penny Johnson and her husband Luther, and their daughter Joanna Johnson and her husband Jacob, Mick Donna and his wife Connie, and their children, Jeremy & Julie Donna, and Diana Butkus, and her children Merry Hinson her husband Rodger and her children, Adrian, Morrighan & Maeve, and Charles Butkus and his wife Nicole, and Katie Butkus; sister-in-law, Lee Whitt; and many nieces & nephews. In addition to her parents, Mary was predeceased by her husband Herschel Donna; her son-in-law, Charles Butkus; her siblings, Herschel Fletcher, Marjorie Lagrow, Audrey Hanson, Rachel Davis, and Bea Benjamin; and her brother-in-law, Rayburn Donna.

Friends & family are invited to Mary's life celebration on Tuesday, May 19, 2026 to include visitation from 10-11:00 AM followed with a funeral service at 11:00 AM at the Goss-Spears Life Celebration Home, 96 Dickinson Avenue, Enosburg Falls, VT. Interment will follow in Berkshire Center Cemetery.
