Maxine Ovitt

SHELDON - Maxine Ovitt, a beloved mother, crafter, and cherished member of her community, passed away on Wednesday, June 3, 2026 at the age of 94.

She was born August 18, 1931 in Underhill to the late Adlore & Della (Martin) Machia.

Maxine dedicated her life to her family and to nurturing the children around her. She created a warm and loving environment for her six children and was a guiding light in their lives. A passionate crafter, Maxine excelled in ceramics and shared her expertise by teaching others in the community. Her hands were always busy, whether she was sewing, knitting, or working on her needlework. The flower gardens she lovingly tended were a testament to her nurturing spirit and creativity, always bringing beauty and joy to those who passed by.

She is survived by her children, Donna Casavant and her husband Ridgely, Bonnie Bissonnette and her husband Bob, Nancy Pigeon, Charlene Brouillette and her husband Donald, Mary Irish and her husband Jim, and David Ovitt and his wife Marlene; grandchildren, Stephanie Gilbert and her husband Caleb, Ridgely Casavant, Garrick Casavant and his significant other Brooke, Greg Hale and his wife Dawn, Chad Hale, Melissa Gilbert and her husband Robert, Rick Pigeon and his significant other Erin, Jennifer Greaves and her husband Dan, Natalie Duffy and her husband Clay, Andrea Senesac and her husband Sean, Justin Brouillette and his significant other Marcy, Matthew Irish, Amity Irish and her significant other Jason, Mallory Ovitt and her significant other Russell, and Ryan Ovitt and his wife Francisca; many great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren; her sister, Agnes Churchill; sister-in-law, Shirley King; and many nieces & nephews. In addition to her parents, Maxine was predeceased by her husband, Wesley Ovitt; and her siblings, Gerald Machia, Harland Machia, Kenneth Machia, Adlore Machia Jr., and Phyllis Bolio.

Friends & family are invited to Maxine's life celebration to include a Mass of Christian Burial celebrated at 2:00 PM on Friday, June 12, 2026 St. Anthony's Catholic Church, 117 Shawville Road, Sheldon, VT. Interment will follow in St. Anthony's Cemetery in Sheldon.
