Michael Thomas Smith, 36, passed away on Friday, August 8, 2025, leaving behind a legacy of love, laughter, and unforgettable memories. He was born on Friday, April 21, 1989. Michael was a man of wisdom, humor, and a heart that embraced everyone he met. He had a remarkable memory, a gift with words, and a talent for turning ordinary moments into long, colorful stories. His life was full of curiosity, laughter, and storytelling, and he had a unique way of making people feel connected. An avid sports fan, he followed games and statistics with genuine enthusiasm. He also appreciated the small victories found in nature and everyday life.
Throughout his life, Michael was known for his dedication and hard work. In his early years, he attended Lanier Technical College for Business Management before finding his true calling in hands-on work. He mastered the trade of professional painting alongside his father, a craft he took great pride in for many years. Michael most recently found fulfillment operating heavy equipment, with opportunities for growth and advancement ahead.
Above all, Michael’s greatest joy and purpose in life was his daughter, Kylee Shae Smith. She was his whole heart and truly the center of his world. His love and devotion to her were unwavering, and his presence will forever guide her path. Michael will be remembered by his family and countless friends for his genuine kindness, giving nature, compassion, intelligence, and the way he wore his heart on his sleeve. He had a way of making people feel seen, heard, and loved, leaving an imprint on everyone who knew him.
He is survived by his daughter, Kylee Shae Smith, and her mother, Jacquelyn Andersen; his mother and stepfather, Betsy and Steven Wolter; his sisters and their families: Shawna and Adam Pierson, sons Ashton Pierson, Aiden Hervey, and daughter Kaylin Pierson; Nicole and Mitchell Hill, sons Thomas Hill and Nicolas Hill; and ToriJo Moon and her former husband, Steven Moon, sons Casper Moon and Sam Moon. He is also survived by his maternal grandparents, Nancy and David Vincent, his loving Grammy & Grampy, and many aunts, uncles, and cousins.
He was predeceased by his father, Jeffrey Lee Smith; his stepmother, Nancy Smith; his maternal grandfather, Larry Gene Pudvah; his paternal grandparents, Gordon Walker Smith and Minnie “Pete” Smith; and the love of his life, Sheyenne Skye Seabolt, who remained forever in his heart.
Though he faced challenges in life, Michael’s story is one of love, resilience, and connection. He is now at peace, completing his circle in this world and reunited with loved ones who went before him.
Michael’s spirit will live on through his daughter, his family, and every life he touched. He will be deeply missed and forever loved by all who knew him.
A graveside service will be held on Friday, June 12, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at the West Berkshire Cemetery, followed by a reception at The Phoenix Manor, West Berkshire, VT.
