Mickey Heald

RICHFORD – Ovide A. “Mickey” Heald passed away September 9, 2026 in Jacksonville, Florida after a brief illness.

Mickey was born August 31, 1945 in Richford, VT the son of Alan Winslow and Eleanor Barber Heald.

Mickey attended school in Richford and on completion at age 17 joined the U.S. Navy. He was stationed in California aboard the USS Coral Sea. After completion of that he was stationed in Roanoke, Virginia. There he was aboard the USS Enterprise and was the first aircraft carrier deployed to Vietnam. After completing 27 years with the Navy he retired as a First Class Chief Petty Officer. He then married Kala Jones of Roanoke and helped raise 5 step-children, David, Jackie, Darlene, Michelle, and Jason.

Mikey is survived by Kala, Darlene, Michelle, and Jason all of Florida. His two sisters, Nancy Heald Pierce and her husband Robbie of Cocoa Beach, FL and Carolyn Gendron and her husband Alfred of Richford; several nieces & nephews; and special friends, Ovila & Judy Smith of St. Albans. Mickey was predeceased by his mother, father, 2 step-children, and sister, Kay Rogers.

All who knew Mickey loved him, and he made his mark on them. Leaving many wonderful memories along the way.
