Raymond Martin

August 4, 1947 — November 1, 2023

ENOSBURG -Raymond Paul Martin, age 76, son of the late Raymond Abraham Martin and Pauline Belle (Hatch) passed away peacefully at his home on November 1, 2023.

He is survived by his recently estranged wife of 57 years Marcella (Knox), 2 daughters Sherry Parent and Tiffany Martin, a son Justin Martin and was predeceased by a son Jeffrey Martin. He also leaves behind 5 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren, Christopher Wood and his children Brooke and Gunner Wood, Daniel Wood and his wife Lindsay (Snyder) and their daughters Payton and Autumn, Kari Wood and her partner Todd Bessette and their children Ceren, Meeyah and Harmony Bessette, Kaitlyn Wood (whom only he could call Katey) and April Parent and her fiancé Jordan Sowa. His four Sisters Elizabeth Charland, Linda Martin and her partner Fred Curavoo, Martha Steady and her husband Bill, Kristine Kilburn and her husband Ronald (Buck), 2 cousins raised by his parents Michael and Patricia Hatch, and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Raymond was raised in Richmond on his family's farm and had a love for horses. We raised well over 40 in his lifetime. He was a very hard worker and worked for the Massachusetts laborer's union for many years before taking an early retirement. He was known by his crew as "Rainman".

He seemed to know everyone no matter where we went. He would always help anyone who needed it and everyone owed him favors.

He was a bad ass and no one dared to mess with him. Parents would threaten to send their misbehaved children to our house to get "straightened" out. The saying was always I'm going to get Raymond after you.

No sugar coating. He was not a good husband or father. But we made sure he got his final wishes, which was no nursing home, and he didn't want to die in the hospital. He taught a lot of people how to do many things that they will use throughout their lives. He was proud to be Native American and now will Forever Ride Free.
