Richard J. Ploof I

ENOSBURG FALLS– Richard J. Ploof I, age 82, passed away on Monday, June 28, 2021 at the University of Vermont Medical Center in Burlington.  

He was born in Enosburg Falls on February 16, 1939 to the late Oscar and Margaret (Jenne) Ploof.

Richard was a lifelong resident of Enosburg and graduated from Enosburg Falls High School in 1957. After graduation he spent the majority of his working career farming, a job that fit his incredible work ethic. Richard enjoyed playing music on his guitar, going lawn sailing, and puttering around his home. His most prized possession was his 1970 Ford Thunderbird equipped with suicide doors. Although Richard was a self-proclaimed homebody, he always stayed busy, enjoyed family and friend get-togethers, and visiting about the old days.

He is survived by his three sons, Richard Ploof II of Enosburg Falls, James Ploof of St. Albans, and William Ploof of Enosburg Falls; 5 grandchildren, Kimberly, Amanda, Richard III, Joshua, and Anthony; 17 great grandchildren; 1 great great grandchild; siblings, Theresa Snider and her husband Cedric, Roger Ploof, Donald Ploof and his wife Janice, and Wayne Ploof; sisters-in-law, Fredda Ploof, and Cindy Ploof; several nieces and nephews; and his beloved dog, Princess. Besides his parents he was predeceased by his wife, Linda Ploof; great grandson, Austin Ploof; brothers, Phillip, and Edmond Ploof; companion for 11 years, Shirley Taylor; and the mother of his children, Wanda Husband.

Family and friends are invited to Richard’s Life Celebration events on Tuesday, July 6, 2021, to include visitation from 9:30-10:30 AM with a Mass of Christian Burial to follow at 11:00 AM at the St. John the Baptist Church, 62 Missisquoi St, Enosburg Falls, VT 05450. Interment will follow in the Missisquoi Cemetery in Enosburg Falls.
