Robert F. Cosgrove

ALBURGH – Robert F. Cosgrove Sr., age 82, passed away on Tuesday, April 4, 2023 at his home in Alburgh.

He was born in Malone, NY ­­­­on August 5, 1940 to the late John “Ward” & Jeanne (Prouix) Cosgrove.

Robert grew up and attended schools in upstate New York, he graduated from Mount Assumption High School in Plattsburgh in 1958. Shortly after high school he met the love of his life, Connie (Gervais) and they were married on August 26, 1961. Robert and Connie raised their three children together and at the age of 30 he decided he wanted to go to college. Robert graduated from Oswego State University in 1974 with a bachelor’s degree in industrial arts. He then spent the next 30 years of his life as an educator, he started his career at the Lyman C. Hunt school and retired from Edmunds Middle School in 2004.

He served in the U.S. Army National Guard for over 20 years. Robert was a tinkerer and loved going for rides on his pontoon boat, and his John Deere tractor. He also loved working in his vegetable gardens, going on family vacations, and spending time with his beloved horses. Robert and Connie opened their doors to many children over the years while they served as foster parents.

Robert is survived by his wife Connie Cosgrove of Alburgh; their children, Shawn Cosgrove of Alburgh, Robert Cosgrove Jr. and his partner Victoria of Chester, and Michael Cosgrove and his wife Heather of North Ferrisburgh; grandchildren, Jessica, Makayla, Michael, Madeline, Molly, Mandy, Kevin, Kirsten, Kaleb, Vladimer, Gabriel, Vivianna, Kyle, Trudy, Richard, Mary Beth, and Elliot; three great-grandchildren, Linken, Emberly, and Sawyer; siblings, Patricia Emerson, George Cosgrove and his wife Frances, John Cosgrove and his wife Kazumi, and Ward Cosgrove and his wife Alejandra; siblings-in-law, Cheryl Garrand and her significant other Gary, Bonnie LaValley, Trudy Gervais, Carla Yando and her husband Steve, and Tim Desnoyers; and several nieces & nephews. In addition to his parents, Robert was predeceased by his grandson, Jared Templeton; sister, Geraldine Darrow and her husband James; and siblings-in-law, Linda Desnoyers, John Emerson, and Vern LaValley.

Friends and family are invited to Robert’s Life Celebration to include visitation on Thursday, April 13, 2023 from 4-7:00 PM at the Goss Life Celebration Home, 89 Grand Ave., Swanton, VT. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, April 14, 2023 at 11:00 AM at St. Amadeus Catholic Church, 75 North Main St., Alburgh. Interment will be held at the family’s convenience in St. Ann’s Cemetery in Milton.
