Ruth Danforth

With great sadness, the family of Ruth Danforth announces her passing at the age of 92 on August 3, 2026, in Richford. Ruth was a woman of remarkable creativity, warmth, and quiet strength. She was a strong and kindhearted woman who loved her family immensely. Her hands were rarely still-she poured her heart into quilting, knitting, crocheting, and needlework, creating pieces that were as enduring as the love she stitched into each one. Her handcrafted works remain cherished reminders of her kindness - each piece lovingly given to family and friends as a unique, individualized gift that carried her warmth and care.

Ruth was an avid reader who found comfort and adventure within the pages of her favorite crime and mystery novels. She was also a devoted flower gardener, tending her blossoms with the same care she gave to those around her. Ruth saved seeds from her gardens, ensuring that her love for growing and nurturing would live on in the plants that continue to bloom in her memory. Summers spent in her camper, accompanied by her beloved cats, brought her deep peace. Family barbeques-filled with laughter, stories, and togetherness-were among her happiest moments. Ruth grew up fishing and shared that interest with her family, often taking the grandkids out for the day. She loved scenic rides in the countryside looking for moose.

Throughout her life, Ruth was a devoted stay-at-home mom who lovingly cared for her family. After the passing of her husband, she worked in manufacturing positions demonstrating remarkable resilience and dedication. Her work ethic and strength were evident in everything she did.

Born to Minnie (Furness) and Lorn Bertrand, Ruth grew up surrounded by the love of her parents and siblings. She later married Pershing Danforth, with whom she shared four children: John, Jeffrey, Judy, and Janet. She was predeceased by her husband, her parents, her brothers Charles and Norman, her sister Lucille, and several nephews. She is survived by her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchild, brother Carlton Bertrand all of whom carry forward her legacy.

Ruth's life was defined by kindness, artistry, and devotion to family. She will be deeply missed, but fondly remembered through the memories she created and the love she shared. Her spirit lives on in every quilt square, every blooming flower, and every story told in her honor.

A private graveside service will be held at Riverside Cemetery in Swanton.
