MONTGOMERY- Sally H. Newton, age 92, passed away on Tuesday, June 20, 2023 at her home in Montgomery.

She was born in Newport on July 19, 1930 to the late David and Marjorie (Elkins) Haire.

Sally grew up in Newport, and graduated from Newport High. Sally met the love of her life, Ronald Newton, playing bridge one night, they were both in need of a partner, and within five months of that winning night, they were married on April 19, 1958. Over the next 25 years, the pair started their family, and Ronald's career took their family along the United States border until settling in Montgomery where they spent their golden years. Sally was an active member of the Montgomery Methodist Church and Historical Society. She has a passion for literature and history, enjoyed watching old time movies, bowling, traveling across the globe, and was always up for a game of bridge! She was not afraid to tell people what was on her mind, and believed in pushing people to their potential with a touch of tough love.

She is survived by her children and their families, Norman & Martha Newton and their children Christianna, and Alexander, Nora & Bill Sanford and their children Timothy and Tiffany, and John Newton and his son David and his mother Penny Lumbra; and her beloved pug, George IV.
