Sherry Holbrook

Swanton- Sherry Holbrook, age 80, passed away on Wednesday, August 12, 2026, at St. Albans Health and Rehabilitation Center, with her loving family her side.

Sherry well known as 'Meme' was born in St. Albans to the late Ezra Hakey and Richardetta "Dixie" Root.

Meme was a bus driver for many, many years for Grand Ave Enterprise. She was also a part of the Select Board for Swanton, serving for 3 years. She was a member of Eastern Star. Once she retired from driving bus, she became a substitute teacher at MVU.

Meme loved working with all the kids, as they loved her. She also enjoyed going to the casino where she would always have good luck. Meme was an avid gardener, she spent many hours throughout the day tending to her flowers and vegetable garden, her yard always looked beautiful. Meme loved to travel, spending plenty of summers in Maine with family, and even taking a cross country trip one summer in the RV.

Meme is survived by her children, daughter Karen Coon and son Kevin Holbrook and his partner Cyndi Kenney.

Meme leaves behind her beloved grandchildren; Granddaughter Abby Coon and her partner Katja Langmaid, Grandson Michael Coon and his partner Ernest Johnson, and Grandson Jacob Robtoy and his partner Hannah Adams. She also leaves behind her brother, Raymond Hakey and his wife Anne.

Besides her parents she was predeceased by her husband David Holbrook in 2019, brother Mitch Hakey and his wife Susan, and a brother Terry Hakey and his wife Shirley.

Family and friends are invited to Meme's Life Celebration on Thursday September 17th, 2026, to include visitation from 4:00pm to7:00pm. Followed with a Memorial Service on Friday at 11:00am at the Goss Life Celebration Home, 89 Grand Ave Swanton, VT.

Interment will follow in Riverside Cemetery in Swanton.
