Walter Medor

February 24, 1949 — December 20, 2022

SWANTON– Walter R. Medor, age 73, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, December 20, 2022, at his home.

He was born in Lebanon, NH on February 24, 1949, to the late Maynard and Marietta (Hilliker) Medor.

Walter spent most of his childhood in Highgate where he graduated from Highgate High school in 1967. After graduation he joined the United States National Guard. On July 18, 1970, he married his first wife Madeleine Rondeau. Throughout Walter’s life he worked for several companies including Harrison & Belisle Concrete, Flanders Construction, HP Hood, Champlain Cable, and the Town of Highgate at the Highgate Arena. Walter was passionate about his time working for the Arena where he devoted over 20 years serving as the Recreation Manager and retired in 2012. He looked forward to planning fundraisers like the annual haunted house, pancake breakfasts, calcuttas, and raffles to name a few. Walter also spent many years volunteering and supporting the Highgate Little League, Minor League, and Babe Ruth League in the 80s.

On August 1, 2018, he married Sara Lockerby and the two enjoyed going to lawn sales, antique shows, the drive- in, traveling, and going for rides with his co-pilot and four-legged companion, Sugar. Walter was also an avid coin collector, old western movie buff, devoted Elvis’s fan, and expert Halloween decorator. His biggest source of pride came from his children and grandchildren. He was proud that all of his children went to college and would light up in the presence of his many beloved grandchildren. Walter will be remembered for his sense of humor and warm heart.

He is survived by his wife of 4 years, Sara Medor of Swanton; sons, Brian Medor and his wife Deborah of Swanton, and Matthew Medor and his wife Maria of Texas; daughter, Michelle Medor of Swanton; step-children, Jennifer Freeman and her husband Jack of Highgate, and Shawn Campbell and his wife Erin of Enosburgh; grandchildren, Benjamin Medor of Virginia, Nicholas Medor and his companion Michelle of St. Albans, Emma Medor of Swanton, Abbey Freeman of Highgate, Alyvia Freeman (the sparkle in his eye who knew how to make him smile), Jackson Freeman of Highgate, Troy Campbell and his wife Shelley of Swanton, Jordan Campbell and his significant other Jenacee of Champlain, NY, and Chandler Campbell and his companion Emily of Champlain, NY; his three sisters, Nancy Bockus of Swanton, Annette Cadieux of Vermont, Victoria Medor of New Mexico, and brother Paul Cadieux of Vermont.
