Warren Rivers

FRANKLIN - Warren Kenneth Rivers, age 86, passed away Thursday evening May 29, 2008 at the Franklin County Rehab Facility with his family at his side.

He was born February 9, 1922 in Bakersfield, VT the son of the late Eugene & Ila (Cushing) Rivers.

Warren was a U.S Army Veteran of WWII. Following honorable discharge from the U.S. Army he purchased a farm in the Cold Hollow area of Enosburgh. In 1947 he married Marion Dudley who predeceased him in 1996 after 50 years of marriage.

Warren was a farmer and sugarmaker for nearly 30 years and also did carpentry until his retirement in 1990. He was a member of the former Tyler Branch Grange and a member of the American Legion Post # 12 of Richford.

Warren enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. His hobbies and interests included sugarmaking, gardening, forest management, snowmobiling, hunting and fishing.

He is survived by a daughter and her husband, Fern & James Mercure of Sheldon; a son and his wife, Roy & Caroline Rivers of Richford; his grandchildren, Steven Mercure of Colchester, Susan Sylsz and her husband Robert of Tewksbury, MA, Brenda Mercure, and her husband Dan Healey of Long Beach, CA, John Rivers of Richford, Jamie Rivers of South Richford, and Tammy Garcia and her husband Adrien of Paris, TN; his great grandchildren, Tara Slysz, Robert Edward Slysz III, Megan Rivers, Ashley & Mikel Rivers, Emily & Katelyn Spears, and Jason Garcia; a brother, Alden Rivers and his wife Margaret of Richford; several nieces and nephews; his step grandchildren, Raymond Wright Jr. and his wife Mary, Amy Wright and her companion Matthew Raymond, Kory Wright, Caroline Elkins and her husband Lyndol Jr., and Herbert B. Wright; his step-great grandchildren, Jenn Combs and her husband Jody; Haley Tracy, Matthew Raymond Jr., Larry N. Elkins, and Jeremy Wright; step great great grandchildren, Jorden, Jelissa and Jody; and several brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law. He was predeceased by his wife Marion (Dudley) Rivers; sisters, Irene Rivers, Christine Warner, and Josephine Paradee-Pearl; a brother, Wyman Rivers; and 2 nephews, Orin & Alan Rivers

Funeral services will be held Tuesday June 3, 2008 at 11:00 AM at the Spears Funeral Home, 96 Dickinson Ave., Enosburg Falls with Pastor Patrick Hoadley officiating. Friends and relatives may call on the family at the funeral home on Tuesday from 10:00 until the hour of the funeral. Interment will follow in the West Hill Cemetery in Montgomery.

Visiting hours will be held Monday evening from 7-9 PM at the Spears Funeral Home in Enosburg Falls.
